Yellow eyed penguins are awesome. It takes a bit of patience to see them. A couple hours before sunset is the best time to view them. You can't get too close, allowing the penguins to do what it is that penguins do. It's quite entertaining to watch them as they hobble, waddle, and jump across the rocky shoreline after a hard day at sea. They are also incredibly noisy little things. Oamaru is a small town with Penguin colonies. It's pretty safe to say they have the penguin fever.
