PENGUINS!

Yellow eyed penguins are awesome. It takes a bit of patience to see them. A couple hours before sunset is the best time to view them. You can't get too close, allowing the penguins to do what it is that penguins do. It's quite entertaining to watch them as they hobble, waddle, and jump across the rocky shoreline after a hard day at sea. They are also incredibly noisy little things. Oamaru is a small town with Penguin colonies. It's pretty safe to say they have the penguin fever.

Double Rainbow Morning

I noticed this out of the corner of my eye after watching an epic sunrise.

Moeraki Boulders

North to South

Last week we made it to the southern-most point of the country. We have now traveled the entire span of New Zealand. Many of the people we have stayed with and met remark that we'll probably see more of New Zealand than most Kiwis. Here is photographic proof including a shot from the North Island's Cape Reinga.

Nugget Point

Believe it or not the black and white spec at the bottom right hand corner of this photo is actually a penguin. You'll have to take our word for it. To protect their habitat the viewing areas are kept at a distance. We were able to see a couple waddle along and hop across rocks on the way to their nests.

Purakanui

Queenstown

We spent a couple nights at Lake Hayes. Autumn is in full swing here and the trees are beautiful. The seasons are very distinct here and it is becoming quite cold.
